Shine Lights Up B&I Catering with Multi-Level Kitchen Installation

January 2023

Shine Catering Systems has installed kitchens and front-of-house facilities in a landmark development for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The EBRD, which promotes the development of private sector enterprise across 38 emerging economies in three continents, has moved its HQ to Bank Street in Canary Wharf after being located in Exchange Square in the City of London since 1993.

Around two-thirds of the firm’s 3,500-strong global workforce will work out of the London office, occupying the top 12 floors of the 24-storey building.

Chris Hinton, sales director at Shine Catering Systems, said: “B&I catering has had to develop in recent years to keep up with high street trends, otherwise employees will simply leave the office and spend off-site.

“Whether inviting guest vendors into the space, improving the variety of food on offer or simply enhancing the environment, catering operators understand the need to raise quality. And catering design is key to that.”

At EBRD’s new facility, the Shine team worked in collaboration with catering consultant and designer Tricon, as well as interior fit-out contractor Overbury, to manufacture, supply and install a wide range of catering facilities spread over seven floors between the basement and level 24, where the main restaurant is situated.

Manufacturers include Profile foodservice counters, Foster coldrooms and refrigerated cabinets, Ambach prime cooking equipment and Rational combi ovens.

Meiko warewashing equipment and Halton ventilation canopies were also installed, along with general fabrication from Shine’s own team.

Mr Hinton added: “The sustainable design standards of this impressive facility helped to shape the decisions made in catering design and installation. The building was built to BREEAM Outstanding and WELL Platinum standards, and catering equipment was selected by Tricon to meet those levels.

“But there’s no point installing innovative, energy efficient kitchen equipment if catering staff don’t have the knowledge to use it to its full capabilities. That’s why we offer full training to catering staff post-installation, particularly at EBRD where there was a gradual migration of all employees from the old headquarters to Canary Wharf. All equipment is also covered by a one-year warrantee.”
