Strategic Expansion: Midas Foods Broadens Capabilities with Acquisition of J.M. Exotic Foods

January 2025

OAK PARK, MICH. — Midas Foods International has announced its acquisition of J.M. Exotic Foods Inc., a well-established Alabama-based manufacturer specializing in spices, seasonings, blends, and sauces for retail and foodservice markets. This strategic move, unveiled in late December, represents a key milestone in Midas Foods' growth trajectory.

The financial specifics of the deal have not been disclosed. However, it was confirmed that the management team at J.M. Exotic Foods will remain in place, ensuring operational continuity. The Moody, Ala.-based company operates a 50,000-square-foot facility, serving a broad spectrum of clients with its high-quality offerings.

Midas Foods, headquartered in Oak Park, Mich., is renowned for its diverse product portfolio, which includes sauces, gravies, baking mixes, stocks, condiments, and plant-based ingredients. With this acquisition, Midas aims to enhance its capabilities in retail spice packaging while leveraging its expertise in dry-blend formulations for sauces, desserts, and glazes.

“This acquisition is a significant step forward in our mission to deliver innovative and high-quality solutions,” said Richard Elias, president of Midas Foods International. “It strengthens our packaging and processing capabilities, enabling us to offer greater value to our customers. We’re committed to investing in J.M. Exotic Foods, enhancing their high-speed processing for both retail and foodservice markets. Together, we’re setting new standards in efficiency and product innovation.”

The partnership will also bring Midas Foods’ advanced food technology, expanded production capabilities, and culinary research and development resources to J.M. Exotic Foods. With a team of nationally recognized chefs and food technologists, the collaboration is expected to drive significant innovation and a broadened product range.

Jeff Johnston, former president of J.M. Exotic Foods, shared his optimism about the partnership. “Midas Foods shares our hands-on management approach and dedication to excellent service,” Johnston noted. “While we’ve excelled in spice and seasoning production, we lacked the robust R&D capabilities that Midas provides. Their expertise opens new avenues for growth and innovation for our customers. Even before finalizing the deal, we saw exciting opportunities emerge.”

This acquisition aligns with Midas Foods’ broader strategy to establish a nationwide manufacturing presence and diversify its offerings with new packaging formats, including shaker bottles and retail-ready options.

Operating over 100,000 square feet of R&D and manufacturing facilities across the U.S. and internationally, Midas Foods serves clients in all 50 states. The integration of J.M. Exotic Foods marks a critical step in the company’s journey to provide comprehensive, innovative, and efficient solutions tailored to the evolving needs of the food industry.

With this partnership, Midas Foods reinforces its commitment to advancing food technology and enhancing its position in the competitive food sector, paving the way for groundbreaking developments in the market.
