Kuwait, Brazil Plan to Expand Trade Exchanges

March 2025

Trade between Brazil and Kuwait remains centered on Brazilian food and commodity exports and Kuwaiti oil. However, a Brazilian delegation visited Kuwait from February 2-4 to diversify trade and attract Kuwaiti investments in logistics, infrastructure, renewable energy, sustainability, aviation, and food. The mission, led by the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) and supported by the Brazilian Embassy in Kuwait, aimed to strengthen economic ties.

Ambassador Rodrigo Gabsch noted that the initiative was proposed by ABCC Vice-President and Secretary-General Mohamad Mourad in October last year. The delegation included Mourad, ABCC Dubai head Rafael Solimeo, and representatives from ApexBrasil, Embrapa, InvestSP, and Embraer.

The delegation held meetings with Kuwaiti ministries, including Commerce, Defense, and Foreign Affairs, as well as the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources. Key institutions such as the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), the Department of Economic Affairs, and the National Fund for Small and Medium Enterprises were also engaged.

Mourad emphasized that discussions reinforced ties between the ABCC and KCCI, paving the way for upcoming trade missions. He highlighted Kuwait’s interest in expanding imports beyond poultry, including sugar and live cattle. Strengthening small and medium-sized business participation in bilateral trade was also a key agenda point.

According to Brazil’s Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services, Brazil’s exports to Kuwait in 2024 reached USD 400.4 million, a 49.4% increase from 2023. Imports from Kuwait totaled USD 580.3 million, up 44.9%. The total trade flow grew by 46.7% to USD 980.8 million, leaving Brazil with a USD 179.8 million trade deficit.

Brazil's main exports to Kuwait included poultry meat, steel tubes, corn, and beef, while petroleum and sulfur dominated imports. The visit marked a step toward diversifying trade relations and strengthening economic cooperation between the two nations.
