Social Media Predicts Food Trends

March 2018

New food trends are hard to predict. Food trends are strongly connected to different cultural aspects and are highly influenced by social media. Some big influencers in today’s society are the bloggers who have thousands and millions of followers. Bloggers use their platforms to promote different brands and lifestyles, and to share with their followers the food they eat.

Many of the popular food trends are not born overnight, but have been developing slowly and steadily before rising to the surface. Some trends make an unexpected comeback and take the market by storm once again, while others just pop out of nowhere. This goes to show that trends, food in particular are unpredictable.

The World Health Organization released the statists related to overweight and obesity with more than 1.9 billion people being overweight. As a certified nutritionist, I think that these numbers shouldn’t be overlooked. The good news is that, veganism, and healthy and organic eating are trends that aren’t going anywhere, in fact they are progressing steadily to dominate in 2018.

For health-conscious consumers in 2018, a wide range of healthy new products will be available on the shelves of the UAE supermarkets. It’s safe to say that this would ensure and promote healthy eating.
