Siemens Boosts Energy Efficiency of a Turkish Sugar Factory

March 2017

The Turkish sugar producer Amasya Sugar (Amasya Seker Fabrikasi A.S.) is equipping the entire low-voltage power distribution network at its factory with systems and components from Siemens. The new equipment will provide reliable and uninterrupted distribution of power generated by four gas turbines. Aided by intelligent energy data acquisition and analysis capabilities, operators can now monitor energy flows throughout the entire production plant and take over control as needed. As a result, the plant can operate with much greater energy efficiency and higher availability. The Simaris software-based planning tool was used to dimension and engineer the electric power distribution system taking all safety requirements into account. The scope of supply includes 100 Sivacon S8 low-voltage switchgear panels, 110 communication-enabled 3VA molded case circuit breakers, 22 3WL open circuit breakers to protect the main power circuits as well as more than 20 7KM PAC4200 and 7KM PAC3100 measuring devices. The power manager software program collects and analyzes the energy data acquired by the measuring devices. The sugar factory placed the order for installing the components with the Turkish electrical installation firm ELTES Elektrik Ins. Taah. San. Ve Tic. A.S. Sivacon S8 low-voltage switchgear handles the main power distribution. Thanks to its double-front design, this switchgear contains up to 30 percent less copper than conventional machines. At its heart is the modular 3VA molded case circuit breaker from Siemens' Sentron portfolio, equipped with electronic trip units (ETU).
